【Introduction of the Center of Buddhist Studies】成功大學佛學研究中心的前身為中文系「宗教與文化研究室」。 The precedent of the Buddhist Studies Center of the National Cheng-kung University (Hereafter: the Center of Buddhist Studies)is the “Religion and Culture Research Room” of the Chinese Literature Department at National Cheng-kung University.A Group of professors specializing in the Chinese Religion established this research community in 1994. For the past thirteen years, the Research Room has became a base for frequent interactions with scholars of ReligiousStudies and won general recognitions for its contributions to this field through a series of seminars, regular scholarly meetings, and workshops on chosen Classics organized by the group members. The Research Room also started to publish Journal of Religion and Culture of National Cheng-kung University without funding support from the university. After years of dedication, the group members felt that it is time to bring the impact to the field to a different leve l by assuming a more active role. Through upgrading the Religion and Culture Research Room to the Center of Buddhist Studies, an even greater research community can be formed to interact with scholars from various disciplines and universities and to create more innovative paradigms for research and issues for the study and instruction of religions. In the September of 2007, a formal application to establish the Center of Buddhist Studies is filed in order to pursue inter-disciplinary research along the following directions:
